PIOTR KUREK - HEAT

BS006

Piotr Kurek – born in 1978 in Poland – is a musician, composer and enthusiast collector of instruments and vintage studio equipment. He is the author of numerous pieces for theatre and contemporary dance performances. In the late 1990s he was the co-founder of the electronic group Slepcy and since then he’s been releasing music for various record labels and has participated in international theatre and music festivals.

Piotr Kurek’s “Heat” was originally released in December 2011 as a limited edition cassette by Digitalis LTD. Sold out shortly after the original release date. Most of the sounds in “Heat” originate from various exotic records, from documentary movies or archives, or were recorded in studio using vintage organs, electric piano and synthesizers. Starting from an original idea of creating a specific music concrete album deeply rooted in archival nature, “Heat” emerged as a rich organ-infused tropicalia where everything was blurred in greenish-brown and sultry air. The Black Sweat Records reissue is a 200 copies edition, pressed on tobacco paper. Inside there is a link to download the digital edition of the album.

BAXAMAXAM - ST

BS004

Cristiano Buffa electric guitarist involved in blues and Abdou Mbaye coming from a griot family of S. Louis took senegalese and west african tunes and vulcanized them into deep blues. Muddy tones and desert visions blended with djembé slow beats and rusty ikembé to create an african clay in which to sink. You’ll be trippin’ between daydream guitar textures and minimal percussion while Abdou’s voice talks about love, death, odyssey, cheating, god. 8 tracks recorded on analogue tape by Maurizio Abate in one incredibly hot july afternoon with cigales in the back yard and sweat in the basement. Limited edition of 150 silkscreened copies: 3 different colours (Red, Green and Black).

AL DOUM AND THE FARYDS - POSITIVE FORCE

BS002

From Milan, Italy, Al Doum and The Faryds return with a brand new LP of immaculate beauty. Fusing together free jazz, psych, eastern and Indian influences. Al Doum and The Faryds create a mesmerizing mixture: the continuous, fluid sound of "Positiva Force" perfectly succeeds in expressing the parallel influences of ecstatic eastern/african sound and of the contemporary free, energetic, spirited sound, with a nice jagged, if not toxic guitar phrasing.

420 copies regoular edition/ 50 copies limited red vinyl and tour silkscreened poster

“This fucking righteously Out There declaration comes on like a lobotomized Xhol Caravan meets Shiva’s Tongue meets one of those low low grade reggae recording bands like Ras Michael & the Sons of Negus, all jamming-ah on the 100° Fahrenheit obsidian-strewn plains of Southern Sardinia. Yes, it’s hot “. Julian Cope

The six untitled pieces vary from meditative strumming & humming to explosions of crazyness.

EDEN AHBEZ - EDEN'S ISLAND

BS001

Ahbez, was a 20th century maverick, possibly comparable to Moondog and Harry Partch. A bearded, vegetarian, sandal wearing traveller, known for sleeping in caves and even under the Hollywood sign - in the 1940s. He wrote Nature Boy, first recorded by Nat King Cole and numerous others. This record, his only album, recorded in 1960, sits quite comfortably alongside exotica proponents Arthur Lyman and Martin Denny: vibraphones, heavenly choruses and bamboo sticks abound, with poetic meandering and a sprinkle of jazz. LP comes housed in silk screened sleeve, with liner notes insert.
